When it comes to classifying individuals as consultants or independent contractors, or salaried versus hourly, there are landmines that public charter schools need to avoid. DC Department of Employment Services and the U.S. Department of Labor have rules for determining who must be paid overtime and when, where and how employees must be paid. There also are rules which determine who is an independent contractor and who is an employee. Speakers will discuss some of the traps for unwary public charter schools.
